What does Farm Bureau do?

  • We act as an information source on topics relating to agriculture,
including State and Federal regulations affecting the industry.
  • Farm Bureau promotes agriculture as a sustainable business and
plays an active role in legislation from Sacramento and in
    Washington D.C.
  • Farm Bureau also works to educate the public about the importance
of farming and farm products in consumers’ everyday lives.
What is Farm Bureau doing in Madera County?

POLITICAL REPRESENTATION
  • Our Executive Director regularly attends City Council and Board of
Supervisors meetings and acts as an overseer of land use policies
and protection of the Williamson Act.
  • As a grassroots organization, our Board of Directors develop policy
recommendations and highlight key issues of interest to keep our
State and National leaders informed of our concerns for agriculture
    in the San Joaquin Valley.
  • We were recently victorious in a challenge of a residential
development without an adequate water supply approved by our
    County Supervisors.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
  • Our Young Farmers & Ranchers program is just one example of the
many ways we are creating a strong base of leaders for the future
    of agriculture in our county.
  • We have gathered important information about starting a farming
business from several agencies.  Our "Beginning Farmer's Toolbox"
is available to members.  Topics addressed include: financing
options, risk management, business permits and requirements, air
quality compliance, pesticide use and employee safety.

OUTREACH AND ADVOCACY
  • As we becomes more urbanized, it is important to stress the
importance of agriculture and its relevance.  Our School Gardens
Program gives students in local schools a hands-on understanding
of where their food comes from.
  • We take advantage of several opportunities to display Madera's
agricultural products at various venues throughout the year.  The
"Harvest Classic" at the Madera Speedway is just one example of
events we have participated in to promote our local commodities.

INFORMATION RESOURCE

pertaining to agriculture.  As a member, feel free to call or email us
    any time for assistance.

minimal cost.  Stop by our office, or click here to view signs available.
