The Air Coalition Team (ACT) is a collaborative effort by several Central Valley agricultural organizations. It was created to represent farmers against unwarranted Air District regulation. A team of professionals, including your Farm Bureau Executive Director, works constantly with the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District, fighting against unreasonable air-quality regulations on your agribusiness. Additionally, ACT defends your industry publicly against environmentalists who seek to discount agriculture's successes in cleaning up our Valley's air.*
Madera County Farm Bureau works hard to protect your water supply. A longtime advocate for more water storage, MCFB has supported the concept of an underground water bank operated by locals in Madera County. MCFB also publicly supports the construction of new dams-for example, Temperance Flat above Friant Dam. We closely monitor legislation, judicial decisions and state water bonds that may affect our water supply. Additionally, MCFB works with local government officials and staff to educate and provide input on water-supply management to protect the future of agribusinesses in Madera County.*
Through voluntary donations from members, the Madera County Farm Bureau Legal Fund was created in 2005. The call-to-action stemmed from a proposed development project near the San Joaquin River, whose proponents had failed to show proof of an adequate water supply, as required by state law. The judge ruled in our favor, delivering a victory for the membership. The Legal Fund defends the rights of our membership against government action that fails to take into account the protection of agriculture and the resources necessary for its proliferation.*
The Madera County Farm Bureau Scholarship Fund (federal tax ID# 20- 6516696) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The Fund awards scholarships annually to high-school seniors who intend to seek higher education in an agriculture-related field. Scholarships are awarded based on merit and school involvement. The scholarship opportunities are: two 4-year scholarships, including the Franklin B. Secara Memorial Scholarship and the Madera County Farm Bureau Multi-year Scholarship; and one-year scholarships in the amount of $1,000 per award. All of your gift to the Scholarship Fund will be used for charitable purposes and may be deducted as a charitable contribution under both federal and California law.
